So, I guess this is where this thing is starting.
Here’s the backstory of us. We’re a married couple living in the RTP area. In the past I was a very active person, loved cycling, hiking, etc. After moving to the RTP right after college, I sold my bikes to pay rent, and was working a job that didn’t allow me to plan much free time. I ended up ballooning up to 283lbs before I decided that enough was enough.
I buckled down on a low-carb diet and got myself down to 233lbs, which is where I’ve been for almost 2 years now. I’ve had enough of this, and to get things going again, my wife and I have decided to get more active.
It’s funny how it started actually. On Labor Day weekend she wanted to do something that we hadn’t done before, as we both had the weekend off. After a quick google search, I decided that we would go hike around Pilot Mountain. We did the little out-and-back, and then saw a sign for a “strenuous” trail. Sounds fun, lets do it.
It kicked our asses, but when we got back to the car, we decided that we needed more of that type of stuff in our lives.
Since then we’ve been getting some miles in on the Mountains to the Sea trail up around Falls Lake after work a couple nights a week, and we’ve got the bikes out (I had to buy a new one) and we’ve been cruising the Capital Area Greenway quite a bit.
In addition to losing weight, and getting more active, we’ve also been working the Dave Ramsey plan to get out of debt for almost 2 years. At this point we’ve paid off almost $50,000 in debt, and we still have a way to go, but we’re making progress. In this blog, expect to see things from an average couple, getting more fit, and having fun on a shoestring budget.
This is going to be fun.
