Holy crap, I didn’t even know this was a thing, but apparently it is.
Yesterday we were able to get on the Neuse River Trail early at Poole Road, and we had a fantastic 20 mile ride, **except for the last 100 feet.**
As we were approached the parking lot up at Falls Dam, the pathway was congested to say the least. There were kids having some sort of running contest, and a lot of people getting on and off the pathway.
I had to make a turn into the parking lot, but slowed down to wait for an oncoming cyclist to pass. I looked up and she was meandering all over the pathway, eyes locked on her iPhone, not seeing where she was going or who was coming towards her. At the last second she looked up, veered into the grass and lightly hit a sign. She was fine, but I could tell her ego was damaged a bit.
I wasn’t mad, but since the incident I can’t help but think how irresponsible and dangerous it is to ride a bicycle and text on your phone. Just pull over and stop for a second if you need to reply to someone, or better yet: put your phone in airplane mode so you don’t get any notifications and can enjoy your ride.
